I pride myself in candor, because I believe candor not only honors ourselves and those with whom we communicate and do business but also adds expediency to understanding, community and solutions.

For a window into who I am and what I’m all about, check out my podcasts (and docu-short series).  They are a JOY!  I have produced and am actively involved in hosting Dungeons ’n’ Durags as well as Breaking the Glass (podcast and shorts) in the past.  And I’ve had the pleasure to participate in several others.

Dungeons 'n' Durags Podcast Poster 02Dungeons ’n’ Durags (Co-Producer)

Ron has lived his entire adult life as a black man in a white world. In 2016 he had both a crisis of his Christian faith as well as a racial identity crisis (you can guess why). Since then he’s been on a journey to reconnect with his blackness in a way he never has before. His Black BFFs, JD, and Yolanda T. Cochran, are the “Bow & Dre” to his “Junior.”  Every episode they discuss issues of race and religion, politics, and pop culture. Shade will be thrown. Jokes will be made. And provocative conversations will be had. He’s just one nerdy Oreo tryna become a double-fudge brownie y’all. So go easy on a brutha.

Film Riot

The Film Riot Podcast is a conversation with talented and innovative filmmakers. From directors, editors, stunt coordinators, DPs, Actors, VFX artists, and so on… We will be diving into the process, art, and lifestyle of filmmaking from every aspect.

IN THIS EPISODE: What the hell does a producer do? When every production can have five different versions of them, it’s no wonder this is a recurring question. In this episode Yolanda gives some answers on that and other gems on filmmaking in a “sits down” with Ryan Connolly.

The Other 50% Podcast poster -- Yolanda Cochran

The Other 50%

After two decades in the entertainment industry, Julie realized that too often she was the only woman in the room where the decisions were being made and she needed a platform for the change she wanted to make. So she launched a podcasting company and produced six seasons of “The Other 50%: A Herstory of Hollywood” where she has interviewed over 220 successful women of all backgrounds who work in entertainment, and several brilliant gender equity experts. What started as an exploration of implicit bias in Hollywood quickly became an education in representation and inclusion.

IN THIS EPISODE: Yolanda started out as a CPA with KPMG and a production auditor at Disney. Not too many years later, she was EVP Production at Alcon Entertainment. We dug deep into the important issues….like exclusively breastfeeding while being a badass at work.  Believe us when we say, it is not easy!  We also talked about the notion that for women to be more successful they need to behave like men.  Is that true?  Or can we shift the paradigm?

Crossing the 180
(part 1)

Crossing the 180 is “the filmmakers’ podcast that breaks the rules.” It’s a personal conversation about craft and culture with filmmakers and other professional creatives in the visual arts. Host and producer Ron Dawson brings nearly 20 years of interview, writing, and storytelling experience to engage in fun, informative, and sometimes provocative dialog with artists doing amazing work.

IN THIS EPISODE: From filmmaking to television production, Yolanda has deep insights and experience across it all. We covered so much ground that this episode is part 1 of 2. In part one, Yolanda and I cover her getting in the business and the state of gender and racial representation in Hollywood, and what it’s been like for her as a black woman in this industry. In the next episode of the show (pt2), she and I will go deep into the roles of producers in film and television.
